IRIS report on Silver  IRIS is a database of human health effects that may result from exposure to various substances found in the environment. Brought to you by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its Office of Research and Development, National Center for Environmental Assessment.  This IRIS Report is the most extensive report on silver we have found. It is very long and basically says silver does not cause cancer and the only time silver can have any toxic effects at all is when you mix it with other elements to form silver salts such as silver nitrate or silver acetate. Even then, long term exposure is required and the condition is cosmetic in nature with no harmful effects reported
